Our Journey

Chance to Choose is continuing to grow and develop.

We are proud of what the group is today, but we also have lots of ideas for the future. We want Chance to Choose to become more than an art group. Our aim is to create more opportunities for people with learning disabilities, learning differences and autism to be creative, learn new skills, meet other people and have their voices heard.

We know that this will take time, so we want to develop Chance to Choose in stages.

Stage 1 – Building Our Art Group

Our first priority is to continue developing our weekly art sessions.

We want Chance to Choose to be a friendly, welcoming and supportive place where people can enjoy being creative, make friends and try new things.

We also want to listen to our members and involve them in decisions about the group.

Their ideas will help us decide what Chance to Choose does next.

Stage 2 – Building a Stronger Organisation

As Chance to Choose grows, we want to create a stronger organisation behind the group.

One of our future aims is for Chance to Choose to become a non-profit company.

This would give us a more formal structure and could help us develop new projects, apply for funding and create more opportunities for our members.

We want to grow carefully and make sure that the people who use Chance to Choose remain at the centre of what we do.

Stage 3 – Introducing Workshops

We would like to offer different creative workshops alongside our art sessions.

These could include:

  • Creative writing

  • Photography

  • Film making

  • Video editing

  • Storytelling

  • Music and sound

  • Digital skills

  • Arts and crafts

  • Confidence and communication activities

Workshops could be led by people with different skills and experience.

They would give members the opportunity to discover something new, learn practical skills and find activities they enjoy.

Stage 4 – Making Videos Again

Video is something we would like to become an important part of Chance to Choose in the future.

We would like members to have opportunities to learn how videos are made.

This could include learning about cameras, sound, interviewing people, presenting, editing and working together as a production team.

Our videos could tell stories about our group, showcase members' work, talk about disability issues and share the experiences and views of people with learning disabilities.

Most importantly, we want people to have the opportunity to tell their own stories in their own way.

Stage 5 – Working With Other Organisations

As we grow, we would also like to work with other groups, community organisations and creative organisations in Sheffield and beyond.

Working together could allow us to share skills, organise workshops, create joint projects and give our members more opportunities.

We would also like to invite people with different skills to visit Chance to Choose and share their knowledge with the group.

Stage 6 – Creating More Opportunities

Our longer-term aim is to create a wider range of opportunities throughout the year.

This could include exhibitions, film projects, creative events, workshops, visits, community projects and opportunities for members to show what they have achieved.

Some projects may be small and others may take longer to develop.

We do not want to rush.

We want Chance to Choose to grow in a way that is sustainable, inclusive and shaped by the people who are part of it.

The Journey Continues

Chance to Choose is growing, and we are excited about what the future could bring.

We want to build on what we are doing now and gradually introduce new opportunities for our members.

Our aim is to create a place where people can explore their interests, develop new skills, build confidence and try things they may not have had the opportunity to try before.

As Chance to Choose develops, we want our members to be involved in shaping what we do. Their ideas, interests and experiences will help guide our future projects, workshops and activities.

We hope that over time Chance to Choose will offer much more than our weekly art sessions, with opportunities in areas such as film making, creative writing, photography, video production and other creative activities.

We want to grow at a pace that works for the group and make sure that everything we introduce remains friendly, accessible and inclusive.

There is still a lot we would like to achieve, and we are looking forward to seeing where the next part of our journey takes us.
